On Tuesday 8th July 2014 Kingsmead School pareticipatedfor the 1st time in their history in the biggest race of the year. The National Flying Clubs Grand National Race from Tarbes in France which to Kingsmead School is 661 miles!

As you can see from the photo Tarbes is on the boarder of France and Spain and is one of the toughest race point in the racing season With over 431 miles of land to cover in France 70 + miles of open water in the English Chanel and 150 miles of flying once they reach England.

The race started on Monday 7th July when over 2500 pigeons where released at 12:30pm from Tarbes. The school had entered a single entry     GB 12 N83870 “The Mealy”  he returned to Kingsmead just after a large rain storm at 18:56 and was only one of a had full of pigeons that had flown over 650 miles. This achievement from the students at the school is second to none, the race was exceptionally hard and not many pigeons in the midlands and north of the country had made it home but the school had proven that no mater your age you can compete at the top.

Massive congratulations to all the Students involved in the pigeon project and a special mention to Bobby Pinchers from West Hill Primary School he was the person who bred the pigeon for the school and also has his own pigeons at his home with his father. Congratulations Bobby this is no mean feat especially at the age of 8 years old.
