Kingsmead School Pigeon Project
Its easy to start racing pigeons on your
own and the best thing is you can be any age!!!!!!

It is easier than you may think to have your very own Racing Pigeons........
Step 1: Housing the pigeons A small shed is all you need to start up racing your own pigeons have a look at the photo with Jack in he has a small shed his dad made for him and he can house 8 young pigeons in this one loft
Step 2: Equipment you will need to look after your pigeons. You will need a number of items to help you look after the pigeons:
A Scraper and a hand scraper- These items help you clean out the pigeons every day
Perches – This is where the pigeons can sit and rest and there are many different perches you can chose from as you can see in the pictures
Food Trough – This is where you put the pigeons food every dayFood – One of the most important things a pigeon needs
Water fountain – Where you put the water for the pigeons to drink
That is it! All you need to keep pigeons are those 5 things.
See we told you it was easy!!!!
Now I bet you are wondering where I can get a racing pigeon from and the answer is simple. Most pigeon fanciers will give you a few young birds to start you off. So just look to the sky and see who around you has racing pigeons and then go with an adult and ask them if they can help, and we promise you most pigeon flyers will be more than happy to help anyone out who is new to the sport. They were very kind to the school when we first started.
If that is not for you, then that is fine. All around this page are all the contacts of the regional secretary. Their job is to offer support to anyone who keeps pigeons or who wants to keep pigeons. If you ask a parent guardian teacher if they can contact your regional secretary and they will be able to help you and direct you to someone who will be able to give you your first pigeons. You can contact the headquarters of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association by clicking on their badge at the bottom of this page.
To start off with that is all you need to race pigeons but if you are looking for that little extra bit of advice on how to keep racing pigeons have a look at this short video clip video clip at the top of the page.
