Kingsfield Lofts

Kingsfield Lofts is the name of Kingsmead Schools latest project and yes as you can see it involves Racing Pigeons.

The Project was set up in by member of staff Mr Chambers as he himself had racing pigeons as a child and saw the benefits that he gained from having birds.

" Racing pigeons was a fundamental part of my upbringing I have always been around pigeon from a very early age as my Dad, Granddad and Great Granddad had all raced pigeons.

Racing Pigeons has taught me key life and social skills such as RESPONSABILITY, RESPECT, SOCIAL and COMUNICATION skills from not only looking after the birds but also racing them"

The project was set up in July 2011 after funding of £1300 had been secured for the Pigeon Loft by 2 sponsors

The Royal Pigeon Racing Association & Pigeon Chat.com as well as building materials from Jonathan Hamplet - Ranton Building Suppliers donated to the school free of charge

The season of 2012 saw new improvements to the school loft with an extension of an aviary being attached to the school loft to house the new Young Birds for the 2012 season. Again all the building materials where donated to the school by Ranton Building Suppliers and was built by the school in the February of that year.

We would like to thank the sponsors and people that have supported us in getting this project up and running as it could not have been done without your help.

After the initial loft had been constructed we was then able to install the Nest Boxes and Box Perches into the loft giving the pigeons a perch on these was kindly donated by Red Star Lofts of North Wales

The next stage was to introduce the first pigeons to the loft, these where supplied by Alan Bamford of Bamford Top Flight Corn. A week later these was joined by 6 pigeons donated from Pickstock and Gilespie of Runcorn who donated 6 pigeons to the school loft later into the season pigeons joined us from a number of flyers Formilar 1 Lofts, Chambers Family - Cannock, Mr & Mrs Brown - Cannock, Albert Cousins- Belfast and the famous Mark Gilbert - Winkfield who donated 4 pigeons to the school, 2 of which were directly related to pigeons he had won top prizes in the National Flying Club. and that made up the first ever team of racing pigeons at Kingsmead School.
