Young Wings Film

Young Wings is a new film that has been created by award winning film maker Jim Jenner from the USA and it looks at stories from all over the world where racing pigeons have become part of children’s lives and the effect that these birds have had on the young children they have come into contact with. Jim visited the school back in the summer of 2012 when the pigeon project was just starting up here at Kingsmead. He talked to some of our students who looked after the birds and he took a few hour of footage for him to use in some of his films. The school had previously been featured in “The Queens Wings” which was all about the race flown in honour of HRH Elizabeth II.

Both films are designed as a teaching tool for teachers, adults, children to see how pigeon can be used not only in a social learning environment but also in a more academic way. As “Young Wings” shows this can have some really positive outcomes and can reach some children unlike any other strategy that has been put in place for these individuals.

The two films are currently being used in the Flying Back to Nature, and Secret Message Projects that have been set up by the Midlands National Flying Club to help get children more involved in nature and to show them and their teachers how pigeons can be a big part of this and also what role racing pigeons have played in the world to date.
