Kingsmead School will be competing in the world's biggest pigeon race The South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race on February 3rd 2018.

​

The South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race have been sponsored Kingsmead School to enter a team of 4 pigeons to join the team that will represent the United Kingdom in the 2018 race.

​

As you know Kingsmead races pigeons direct from the school loft based on the schools playing fields ever year from April to September, and in 2017 we sent 4 of the young birds from our breeding loft.

Kingsmead Represented Team GB in Johannesburg South Africa

In April 2017 we sent a team of 4 pigeons that were babies from our breeding loft in the United Kingdom over 5500 miles to the racing lofts in South Africa where the race is held. This will be the pigeons new home and will race against pigeons from all over the world the below races

​

Another great race with 54 UK pigeons being officially clocked by 08.09, then 109 up to 08.17 and then 256 by 10.52, then 268 by 18.40, which left just 17 to return to base camp. The Monday morning Loft Listing showed 293 UK pigeons in the loft.

GLOBAL NOMINATIONS on HOT SPOT CAR RACE 1 amounted to US$12,507.75c (£10,423) and there was a total of 433 pigeons actually entered which included 35 from the UK and 3 from IRELAND and there was 1,347 nominations and all this money in this race was won by pigeons in the top 221 positions. There were no UK winners. UNITED KINGDOM NOMINATIONS amounted to $345.10c (£287) and there was a total of 15 pigeons entered and there was 44 nominations. There was two winners as follows:- KINGSMEAD SCHOOL from HEDNESFORD with their pigeon named KINGSMEAD HAMPLETT bred by JOHNATON HAMPLETT which took 216th OPEN winning US$26.35c (£22) for its efforts, well done to Mr Chambers and all the school kids, keep up the excellent work, then Guys Lofts Elite with pigeon named De Vinchie Code bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton which took 292nd Open winning US$318.75 (£266) for its efforts.

Another great race with 131 UK pigeons being officially clocked by 09.14, then 162 up to 09.34 and then 168 by 09.40, then 197 by 10.41, 214 by 14.49 and then they last list showed 224 UK pigeons were in the loft by 19.12 which left 59 to return to base camp. Sunday morning the missing pigeons started to roll in and a further 30 UK pigeons returned to base camp, leaving 20 pigeons still missing. The Monday morning Loft Listing showed 270 UK pigeons in the loft.

A later update loft list issued showed 142 UK pigeons had returned to the lofts by 14.20 and then 160 by 15.27 and by 19.15 a total of 196 had been officially recorded, leaving 54 UK pigeons still to return to the loft. Monday dawned and by 18.27 a total of 218 UK pigeons had returned, leaving 32 UK pigeons to return to the loft. However I am sure a few more will work back in the next few days. The Tuesday loft list showed that 220 UK pigeons were still in the race loft.

​

UNITED KINGDOM NOMINATIONS amounted to US$1,109.25c (£925) and showed 22 pigeons with 97 nominations and the winners were TEAM LINCS taking 85th OPEN with their pigeon named GRANTHAM, bred by PAUL & TRACEY STACEY from SLEAFORD which won US$229.50c (£191) for its efforts and then 107th OPEN for KINGSMEAD SCHOOL from HEDNESFORD with pigeon named KINGSMEAD ROSE bred by C ROSE & SON from the MIDLANDS winning US$5.95c (£7) for its efforts and 

then lastly MANCHESTER MAESTROS taking 414th OPEN with pigeon named LADY LOIS 2, bred by JOHN CREHAN from MANCHESTER winning US$873.80c (£727) for its efforts. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
